FAQ

What does holistic mean?

Holistic means that we take into account the whole person- mind, body, and spirit- as well as all of a person’s medical history and all of their current concerns. While allopathic medicine tends to look at only one health issue at a time or take a “one size fits all” approach, holistic practitioners recognize that in order to get to the root of a problem, the whole body needs to be taken into account, as well as a person’s individual needs for a body that is biochemically unique. The body is a complex network of interwoven and synergistic systems that work together and affect each other like dominoes. When one system is harmed, it impacts other systems in the body.

What is the difference between a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner and a Dietician?

A Dietician has received a government-regulated education, while a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner’s education is not regulated by government. Both are knowledgeable in the areas of nutrition, but their areas of focus are a little different. While Dieticians learn about Canada’s Food Guide as the standard for food recommendations, a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner is focused on an individualized and whole-body (holistic) approach in addition to the quality of the food (organic, seasonal, whole foods, etc.). A Holistic Practitioner also considers a person’s full medical history and lifestyle practices when determining the root cause of a health problem. As a Licensed Holistic Nutrition Practitionerâ„¢, my goal is getting to the root cause of a problem, and taking into account a person’s physical, mental, and spiritual health, as well as exposure to environmental toxins and food additives.

Is a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner the same as a Nutritionist?

Since natural nutrition or holistic nutrition is not a government-regulated area of study, provinces in Canada all have their own rules regarding what designations/titles can be used by someone with this type of education. In Alberta, only a Dietician can refer to themselves as a Nutritionist. However, other provinces in Canada allow a health coach or nutrition expert to use the title Nutritionist (depending on their level of education and where they received their education), so these terms are often used interchangeably by many people. In other words, they are the same thing in some circumstances, but not in Alberta. I am a registered member of the Canadian Association for Integrative Nutrition, which allows me to use the title of Licensed Holistic Nutrition Practitionerâ„¢, while someone in another province with the same level of education may be allowed to use the title of Holistic Nutritionist. When in doubt, it’s best to seek out a health coach that has an official designation to back up the quality of their education.

What school did you attend to attain your nutrition education?

I received my nutrition diploma through NutraPhoria School of Holistic Nutrition. The program is approved by the Canadian Association for Integrative Nutrition (CAIN), which is the association that I am registered with.

How do I work with you?

My services aren’t quite ready to purchase, but I always love to hear from potential clients if there’s something specific you think I could help with. Don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m currently working on creating meal plans and product guides for non-toxic living.

What is your personal design style?

I absolutely love farmhouse and cottage styles! I’m really a country girl at heart. I also love things that are classic, timeless, and full of character. I’m not usually drawn to things that are super trendy. You may notice my love for all things rustic, antique, classic, and country, throughout this website. It also plays a role in what brands and products I like to work with, as part of my design philosophy is that everything can be both beautiful and functional!

Fun Fact: Who’s your favourite musician or band?

Hands down my favourite singer/songwriter is Jack Johnson. His voice is so soothing. I love his music for its ability to make me feel more at peace. I also absolutely love country music! Music is something that can really impact the brain and your emotional state, which can make it a valuable tool on your health journey!
